Wagging Tail Dog Park

IEA Inc. was the Prime Consultant responsible for the design of an overflow remote parking area with a connection leading to the Wagging Tail Dog Park.

The original scope and vision consisted of an off-site overflow parking lot with a 900 LF walkway connecting the new lot to the existing Park. Concerns with the original scope included traffic safety and sight distance associated with a new drive off of the north side of Keller Springs Road to the proposed parking lot location which is approximately 10-ft lower than the roadway in a heavily wooded area.

Other concerns included tree and floodplain impacts and mitigation and pedestrian safety along the connecting walkway, which would pass through a secluded area under the vehicular bridge.

Cost Savings and Project Enhancements: Due to budget constraints and the high cost and potential complications of the proposed lot, IEA presented the original concept and a more cost-effective alternative concept. The alternative concept would modify the existing Park and add parking within the existing Park. The safer and less expensive alternative concept was accepted, and IEA developed concepts and a cost estimate. This option allowed the inclusion of several park enhancements in addition to the increased parking capacity.

The Park enhancements included restoring and painting the existing iron fence, landscaping, additional park furniture on concrete slabs, portable restroom enclosure, and additional sidewalk connectivity. IEA also arranged for the TDLR project registration, inspection, and close-out.
