Project Engineer - Roadway (AUS)

Description

IEA Inc. currently has an opening for a licensed Project Engineer (PE) to join our Roadway Team in Austin, TX.

This individual will perform roadway design on TxDOT highway projects under the supervision of a Project Manager and/or Roadway Task Leader. They may also work with others on civil design assignments. Preferably, this person is familiar with the TxDOT Specifications and TxDOT Roadway Design Manual.

The primary duties of the Project Engineer are to be responsible for engineering design using MicroStation, GEOPAK and OpenRoads, and preparation of engineering calculations, engineering reports, and construction documents with occasional assistance from other Project Engineers, EITs, and Project Managers. Work may also entail field investigations and inspections.

Job Requirements

  • Work within a team to develop engineering documents that achieve our clients’ goals and objectives while meeting schedule commitments and budget requirements.
  • Propose approaches to solving new problems encountered.
  • Prepare project designs related to transportation and municipal projects.
  • Regularly work on multiple, unique assignments simultaneously.

  • Cross-train in other transportation disciplines including drainage, signing and pavement marking, signalization and maintenance of traffic.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent from an ABET/EAC accredited program, Master’s degree a plus.
  • Texas licensed Professional Engineer, or ability to acquire within 6 months.

  • Experience in TxDOT or other public agency roadway design (including PS&E & schematics) related projects.

Skills

  • Proficiency with MicroStation, GEOPAK and/or OpenRoads is preferred.

Sr. Project Manager/Lead Roadway Engineer (AUS)

IEA Inc. currently has an opening for a Senior Project Manager/Lead Roadway Engineer to join our Roadway Team in Austin, TX.

This individual will manage transportation design projects for clients such as TxDOT, cities, counties, and toll entities. A strong background in Texas roadway design engineering is required as well as understanding and having an ability to coordinate with multiple disciplines (including roadway drainage, structures, survey and others). Extensive knowledge of TxDOT Specifications and the TxDOT Roadway Design Manual are strongly preferred.

The candidate will lead a team of 2 to 6 professionals in a fast-paced engineering environment where projects may be derived from many delivery methods including conventional publicly bid projects and design-build.

Job Requirements

  • Lead a team to develop engineering documents that achieve our clients' goals and objectives while meeting schedule commitments and budget requirements.
  • Manage/develop engineering designs including geometric alignments, profiles, cross sections, construction sequencing, and maintenance of traffic details.
  • Create engineering documents including Typical Section Packages, Pavement Design Reports, and Variation/Exception Reports.
  • Coordinate with IEA's clients and team members, prepare meeting notes, prepare invoices, and progress reports to support his or her projects.
  • Perform quality control reviews and prepare/oversee construction quantity estimates.
  • Responsible for the review and sealing of projects and supervising the work of other engineers.
  • Represent the company in professional, civic, and political organizations and activities.
  • Pursue additional work from existing and new IEA clients and be responsible for meeting with clients, preparing pursuit materials and coordinating with required discipline leads.

This individual will perform structural design tasks for projects related to highway, roadway, rail and light rail projects including but not limited to bridge design/repairs, retaining wall design, culvert design, and crash wall design.  This individual will be working  under the supervision of a Project Manager and/or  Task Leader. They may also work with others on civil design assignments and assist in coordinating design efforts with other disciplines. Preferably, this person is familiar with the AASHTO Bridge Design Specifications manual, TxDOT’s Bridge Design and detailing manuals.

The  Engineer-in-Training will also assist in the production of engineering drawings and details, , specifications, and estimates.  Work may also entail field investigations and inspections.

This individual will perform structural design tasks for projects related to highway, roadway, rail and light rail projects including but not limited to bridge design/repairs, retaining wall design, culvert design, and crash wall design.  This individual will be working the supervision of a Project Manager and/or  Task Leader, or as Task lead. Primary office location is at our Dallas location, options to work from our Ft. Worth office can be considered.
