IEA Welcomes Greg Peters, PE

IEA’s Latest Addition: Municipal Practice Lead Greg Peters, PE

Join us in welcoming Greg Peters, PE, to the IEA team! With a unique blend of engineering and architectural expertise, a passion for people-first leadership, and a strong background in municipal infrastructure, Greg brings a wealth of experience and energy to our organization.

A Texas-Based Journey Rooted in Education and Family

Originally born in Syracuse, New York, Greg moved to Texas at the age of five and grew up in Lake Jackson. He was a passionate athlete in his youth, playing everything from roller hockey to football, and eventually focusing on basketball and baseball in high school.

His academic path led him to Texas Tech University, where he earned dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Civil Engineering and Architecture, followed by a Master of Science in Architecture. While in graduate school, he met and married his wife, Monica, who was attending law school at Texas Tech.

The couple moved to the Dallas area after graduation and are raising their two children, Jordan (16) and Hailey (9). Greg shared, “We have three dogs, two cats, and a bearded dragon. Our house often feels like a zoo, but we love it.”

Career Built on Communication, Innovation, and Personal Connection

After starting his career at a Dallas-based consulting engineering and land surveying firm, Greg quickly grew into project management roles. Over the years, he has led numerous municipal infrastructure initiatives, always focusing on quality, communication, and creative problem-solving.

He believes the key to delivering high-quality municipal projects is straightforward, “Communication is the single most important factor in achieving project success. Every infrastructure project is going to have challenges involved, but how a team responds to those challenges determines success. When everyone is open, honest, and clear, we can work through anything together.”

When it comes to fostering an environment that encourages team collaboration, Greg shared that the easiest way to do that is, “by showing each team member how the project aligns with their personal, professional, and career goals.” Making each project an opportunity to learn and grow is valuable experience both professionally and personally.

Solving Complex Problems with Regional Impact

Among the many projects he’s led, one stands out for its complexity and long-term impact: the 16MGD Hurricane Creek Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant for the City of Anna, Texas. Faced with political and logistical hurdles in acquiring easements for a transmission line, Greg worked with Public Works staff, the City Manager’s office, and a consulting team to develop a concept plan for the construction of a wastewater treatment plant facility that would expand over time, meeting the community’s current needs.

By building strong partnerships with two cities and three Municipal Utility Districts, he was able to develop a cost-effective regional solution that met regulatory requirements, supported growth, and minimized financial strain on residents.

Today, the plant’s initial 0.5MGD phase is operational and expanding to 2MGD, showcasing an enduring example of his leadership in action.

Life Beyond the Office

Outside of work, Greg keeps busy with a wide variety of hobbies. An avid woodworker and DIY enthusiast, he’s currently building three pergolas in his backyard and tackling an ever-growing list of home projects for his family.

When he’s not at the workbench, you’ll likely find him outdoors. From hiking and camping to fishing and hunting, he’s always chasing the next adventure. This year, he and his daughter have taken on a fun challenge: catching as many different species of fish as they can. So far, they’ve reeled in 19 species and are aiming for 30 by the end of this year.

Drawn to a Culture That Puts People First

When asked what inspired him to join IEA, Greg didn’t hesitate, “The people and the culture.”

When he met the team at IEA, he noted how everyone was engaging, inviting, and positive. Greg saw people at all levels of the organization collaborating and sharing resources with one another. “The energy throughout the office showed me that the organization truly cares about each and every team member, and that IEA puts people first,” Greg added, “I knew I wanted to be part of the IEA team.”

With his extensive experience in the municipal sector, Greg is already making a meaningful impact at IEA, contributing his knowledge and leadership to our team. IEA proudly welcomes him as our Municipal Practice Lead.
