Project Award – DART RBPE Group E

IEA is excited to announce that our Group E - Blue Line South project for DART received a Pillar Award from the Regional Hispanic Contractors Association (RHCA) for “Project of the Year” in April 2022!

IEA provided site civil, drainage, project management, and construction phase services as the Prime Engineering Consultant on this project. Jacobs served as a sub to IEA providing Architectural and Electrical design services for the four Rail Station extensions and Phillips May Corporation served as the General Contractor.

The project included a $1.15M design contract under a Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) arrangement for the completion of a design for the extensions of the Morrell, Kiest, Illinois, and VA Medical DART light rail station platforms. The design also included the conversion of each platform from its existing 2-car maximum train capacity to a 3-car train capacity for future use. The final construction cost for the four Group E Stations was $8.6M.

IEA staff worked in person at DART’s office for the duration of the design contract, working to assist not only each other, but also parallel design Teams responsible for other Rail Stations along the Blue and Red Lines. IEA also supported DART staff with design and CADD/project related configurations and troubleshooting design software issues. The arrangement made for easy coordination between DART and IEA, leading to the successful completion of the project’s design.
