High-Mast Lighting Replacement, DFW International Airport
Dallas-Fort Worth, TX
IEA WAS THE PRIME CONSULTANT FOR MORE THAN 100 HIGH-MAST LIGHTING (HML) REPLACEMENT PROJECTS FOR DFWIA, INCLUDING EMERGENCY REPLACEMENT OF 6 HML POLES.
High-Mast Light Poles Emergency Replacement:
The goal of the project was to replace six (6) high mast light poles at DFWIA previously removed due to being a safety hazard. IEA managed the design of the HML pole replacement with new poles and light systems that were environmentally friendly by consuming less energy and that met TxDOT Standards. The design included meeting the current Illumination Engineering Society of North America light levels; new foundations and galvanized steel poles with light ring lowering mechanisms meeting TxDOT criteria; LED lights; extending conduits and conductors; and demo of replaced elements. IEA designed the HML foundation and designed the traffic control plans.
Terminals B & C High-Mast Lighting Pole Replacement:
This project replaced the High Mast Lighting System parking deck poles for Terminal B Garage B (TBGB), Terminal B Garage C (TBGC), and Terminal C Garage C (TCGC) with TxDOT standard street lighting poles. IEA was the prime consultant responsible for the structural design of pole mounting requirements, photometric analysis of number and locations of poles, electrical infrastructure, removal of remaining High Mast Lighting poles, elimination of parking deck openings resulting from removing the high mast light poles. The project included the preparation of separate construction documents (e.g. drawings, specifications, quantities/bid items) for TBGC to be issued independently, and TBGB and TCGC combined to be issued in conjunction with another project. IEA coordinated the design of the structural elements of the street light pedestals, deck closure, and traffic control with IEA forces. IEA coordinated the photometric analysis and electric designs with an IEA Team subconsultant.
International Parkway High-Mast Lighting:
IEA developed Construction Documents to 70% to replace the existing high mast lighting system along International Parkway as part of the IP-Rt project. Project limits were from Service Road Crossunder #6 to Service Road Crossunder #1. Major design elements included new high mast lighting foundations and galvanized steel poles with internal motor and light ring lowering mechanisms based on TxDOT standards; new LED lights; new infrastructure including power pads and equipment, ductbanks, cables/conductors, and pullbox plazas; and removal of existing poles and foundations. IEA coordinated the photometric analysis to determine light locations and number of fixtures, and HML foundation design, and designed the ductbank and pullbox plaza. The IEA team coordinated on the electrical design of power pads for the new high mast lighting. The Power pads were designed for future proofing.
