Safe Routes to Schools Sidewalk Project, TxDOT Fort Worth District
Aledo, TX

IEA Inc. served as the Prime Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) Consultant for the construction of 1-mile of sidewalk on both sides of FM 1187, added drainage, and ADA ramps.

The purpose of the project was to improve the pedestrian infrastructure along FM 1187 to increase safety and convenience for children to walk and bicycle to and from school.

Constructability Review:

During the pre-construction Constructability Review, IEA noted that a fiber optic line was in direct conflict with proposed drainage improvements. IEA quickly worked with TxDOT to find an approved solution. IEA’s solution utilized Sidewalk Drainage Cover Plates to allow the flow of water under the sidewalk to the open ditch between the sidewalk and the roadway.

IEA then ensured the Contractor received new plan sheets timely to progress construction.

IEA’s proactive resolution allowed for positive drainage, safe movement of pedestrian traffic, and saved the time and cost of waiting for the affected utility line to be moved.
