US 87 Bypass, TxDOT
Howard County, TX

This 8.1-mile, $89M project was a Phase 2 bypass route along US 87 from IH 20 to FM 700 in Big Spring, TX.

IEA was the Prime Construction, Engineering, and Inspection (CEI) firm responsible for the construction management, inspection, records management, and material management for US 87. IEA ensured quality inspection was conducted, materials were tested at the required rates, and records were kept according to TxDOT and Industry best practices.

US 87 had high auto and truck traffic counts and elevation grade changes with ramp and roadway tie-ins. There were 8 overpasses, 5 bridges, 2 railroad structures, including Tx40 and Tx54 beams, and ramp construction. The project included excavation, embankment, drainage structures, bridges, retaining walls, asphalt pavement, illumination, and pavement markings.

Retaining Walls:

IEA reviewed and approved shop drawings, inspected panels, select backfill, flowable backfill, and embankment. We ensured plumbness through frequent quality checks.

Shop Drawings:

IEA completed shop drawings for 10 bridges and 15 MSE walls in 3 weeks.
