PGBT Widening from IH 35E to DNT and US 75 to SH 78, NTTA
Dallas and Collin Counties, TX
IEA served as the prime consultant for the PS&E contract on the 13-mile PGBT widening project, which added a fourth lane to the main lanes in both directions.
This effort was part of a broader plan to increase capacity along the PGBT from IH 35E to DNT and from US 75 to SH 78. IEA was responsible for project management, brainstorming technical alternatives, roadway design, cross sections, drainage elements, and utility relocations.
IEA ensured project quality by optimizing side slopes and median ditch flowlines to avoid retaining walls and minimize concrete riprap. Using 3-D modeling, IEA balanced ditch capacities, side slopes, and riprap needs. One key decision, approved by NTTA, involved altering a proposed median cross-section, in which IEA designed a shallower drainage ditch. This reduced the need for barriers on both sides and provided significant cost savings.
