US 287 Overlay, TxDOT
Tarrant County, TX

IEA was the prime consultant who designed traffic control plans (TCP), signing and striping of the highway.

All improvements, including the pavement overlay and pavement markings, was designed within the existing ROW. IEA managed the surveying and geotechnical engineering. IEA is responsible for the QA/QC of all disciplines.

Challenges:

We were asked to prepare milling and overlay plans for an urban highway. During our site investigation, we identified related items of concern: deteriorated riprap supporting a side slope and bridge joint issues that needed repair.

On the riprap:

We brought in geotechnical experts to collaborate on the design of a low-cost concrete riprap solution to stabilize the side slope.

On the bridge joint:

We met the Owner, TxDOT, in the field for a joint bridge inspection and collaboration on possible solutions. We identified and discussed various options for repair on-site and then in follow-up meetings. Together, we developed a low-cost joint and bridge deck rehab solution.
