Campion Trail Pedestrian Bridge Design

IEA designed a pedestrian bridge and performed the associated hydraulic and hydrologic (H&H) modeling and reports to supplement the City’s in-house design of the Campion Trail extension in Las Colinas and into the City of Coppell.

This bridge spans Grapevine Creek, which is the border of Irving and Coppell, so design was coordinated with both Cities.

IEA coordinated the structural design and hydraulic modeling with the City of Irving staff designing the Trail. IEA proposed a 4-span, 300-ft long TxDOT-style bridge (versus the original conception of a single-span manufactured bridge). This multi-span concept eliminated the need for controversial channel earth work and reduced construction costs, helping keep the project on budget.

To make the bridge more aesthetically pleasing, IEA designed the replacement of the typical pedestrian rails at the abutment wingwalls with a masonry wall structure using a stone pattern similar to other trail components.

This project was one of 17 Task Orders under IEA’s Structural On-Call Contract with the City of Irving.
