DART Silver Line (Cotton Belt) Commuter Rail Line Design-Build
Tarrant, Dallas, and Collin Counties, TX

IEA Inc. is the Segment CB-1 Drainage Lead and is providing drainage, bridge, and wall design throughout the 26-mile commuter rail corridor.

IEA’s design included 8 rail bridges, railroad crash walls at existing bridges, 3 railroad culvert crossings, and retaining walls throughout the corridor. Segment CB-1 includes 4 Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) crossings, 15 cross streets, and 8 miles of drainage along the rail line. The Silver Line (Cotton Belt) Commuter Rail Line is a 26-mile corridor that stretches across North Texas from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to Plano. Once complete, the Cotton Belt project will connect the northern areas of Tarrant, Dallas, and Collin Counties. The Cotton Belt Commuter Rail Line includes 10 total stations and interchanges with the DART light rail Orange, Green, and Red Lines; the TEXRail commuter line to Fort Worth; and local bus services. Stations are located in Dallas, Carrollton, Addison, Richardson, and Plano.

Drainage Design:

IEA designed track cross-culverts, ditch grading, track underdrains, storm sewer, inlets all for the 100-yr event and the stormwater pollution prevention plan.

Bridge Design:

IEA’s bridge design included the design of 4 cast-in-place and precast box culvert crossings, 5 railroad stream/floodplain bridge crossing locations, and 1 railroad grade crossing location. Bridge structures ranged from 105-ft to 1,128-ft in length. Each location included structures to accommodate northbound and southbound tracks.

Crash Walls:

IEA was responsible for the design of the 2 crash walls located at the existing NB and SB International Parkway just North of DFW. IEA was also responsible for the design of 4 crash walls located at the existing IH 635 bridge crossing over the existing and proposed tracks.
